IDEA Public Union and the Ecological Education and Practice Center under the Ministry of Education continue their joint ecological training program “Let’s Protect the Environment Together”, which is aimed at increasing environmental awareness and involving children in the solution of environmental problems from an early-age.
The March trainings were held on the subject of waste management. The trainings were held at eco-clubs of Baku School No. 214 named after Vugar Sadigov, National Gymnasium of Humanitarian Disciplines and Physico-Mathematical and Computer Science Lyceum.
During the theoretical part of the training, schoolchildren learned about waste and its impacts to the environment, sorting, recycling, minimization and reuse as well as solid waste, various types of hazardous waste, and ways to solve the problem with waste in Azerbaijan. The practical part consisted of interactive exercises on waste, particularly best practices on waste reduction and reuse, as well as group activities, crosswords, quizzes and contests.
Also, in accordance with this month’s topic, excursions to “From Waste to Art” Museum in the Gala settlement and Azerbaijan Paper and Cardboard Manufacturing Plant were organized for schoolchildren.
Overall, in the framework of “Let’s Protect the Environment Together” program, training sessions for members of eco-clubs of other Baku schools will be held throughout 2016 on such topics as basics of ecology, the ecology of plants and animals, human ecology, urban ecology and future cities, climate change, alternative energy, waste management, biodiversity and its conservation, forest ecology, green tourism, etc.
