Finalists of the national stage of "Eco Picture Diary 2014" were awarded

 

On October 10, 2014 the winner and the finalists of the national stage of "Eco Picture Diary 2014" contest, which is organized by IDEA Public Union under the auspices of UNESCO, with the support of Heydar Aliyev Center and Panasonic Corporation, were awarded.

 

Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the founder of IDEA, state and government officials, ambassadors of foreign countries to the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as directors and teachers of the schools, where the finalists study participated in the event.

 

Aylin Yahyazade, pupil of Classical High School No. 160 was selected the national winner among the 20 finalists. The jury of the contest, which included the representatives from IDEA Public Union, Heydar Aliyev Center, The Ministry of Education, The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, UNESCO, Panasonic, as well as Media and NGOs, has carefully studied the works of over 3 thousand contestants before announcing the finalists and the winner.

 

During the award ceremony a short film that contained information on the finalists and their paintings was demonstrated to the audience.

 

The winner and the 19 finalists of the national stage of "Eco Picture Diary 2014" were awarded with certificates and valuable gifts.

 

Finalists were pupils of secondary schools of Baku European Lyceum, High school of Physics, Mathematics and Information Sciences, High school complex of Baku Slavic University, "Ankara school" school-lyceum, secondary schools No. 269, 283, 304 in Baku city, and Gymnasium of Foreign Languages, school No. 1, 6, 22, 25, 28, 34 in Ganja city.

 

IDEA distributed 5000 so-called eco-diaries to the schools in Baku and Ganja. The participants of the contest were required to draw a picture that highlights environment threats, as well as write a short description and proposals to solve them.

 

"Eco Picture Diary" international ecological contest has been organized in more than 50 countries since 2008.

 

The purpose of the project is to promote green thinking among children at early ages, mobilize them for the sake of ecological protection, and formulate an active civil stance on environmental and healthcare protection issue
