Earth Hour is a worldwide event that is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
This year, it was held on 31 March 2012 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at participant’s local time.
The action involves both figures and organizations, state and commercial institutions, municipal education establishments and schools.
Azerbaijan has entered the list of 120 countries supporting this global campaign in 2011, turning off the lights of the Maiden Tower on 26 March last year.
This year, Azerbaijan held this action in Baku, Lankaran, Lahij and Ganja.
