IDEA restores destroyed green areas in the centre of Baku

At the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Founder of IDEA, 21 mature trees were planted instead of illegally cut 16 trees in Samad Vurgun street 109, Baku, on 24 April, 2015.

Effects of destruction of these trees could have been devastative for the surrounding environment given their indispensable role in terms of the heath and rest for the surrounding people. IDEA Public Union as an organisation accumulated adequate experience and striving for the preservation of the ecology and biodiversity could not just have stood by this problem. Therefore, the IDEA Founder took the initiative and led the campaign to restore the demolished trees.

The tree planting campaign was joined and supported by more than hundred young people representing different parts of the capital Baku. This campaign was supported by the Executive Authority of Nasimi District.

The campaign participants were informed that over the past 12 months the “No tree cutting” program jointly launched by Heydar Aliyev Foundation and IDEA Public Union, have examined 125 complaints on illegal tree cutting instances in Baku. All cases were carefully investigated and necessary steps have been taken to reach positive solutions. Since the start of this program, a considerable decrease is observed in cases of destruction of the green areas. Besides preventive measures, IDEA attaches similar attention to the enlargement of current green areas both in Baku and in the regions. Thus, since its establishment IDEA has planted more than 4 million trees in Azerbaijan. This process is currently ongoing within the IDEA “Green Marathon” project across the country.

IDEA tree planting projects aim to restore ecological balance, contribute to ecology improvement, raise public awareness and strengthen public control over ecological activities.

IDEA kindly requests all residents to contribute to the conservation of green areas in Baku and inform it through the hotline (1113 by all cell phones and landlines) on the cases of illegal tree cutting cases that they encounter.
