On 21 October 2011, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva and Amb. Fikret Akcura signed a Cooperation Agreement between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the United Nations Development Programon “Mobilizing Azerbaijani Youth for Action for Rio+20 Summit on Sustainable Development”. Leyla Aliyeva also spoke about the measures taken in the country to protect environment and settle environmental issues.

International Dialogue for Environmental Action is an international campaign launched by Leyla Aliyeva on July 12, 2011 in Baku. Leyla saw quite clearly, through her youth work, that the environment was a key cause of concern for young people in Azerbaijan as it is in the region and the world. The concern was real, but the path which young people could take to find out more, to network with others, and to mobilise for action was far from clear.

Through November 24-26, 2011 IDEA hosted the International Camp of Young Environmentalists in Gabala – one of the magnificent regions of Azerbaijan. The aim of the camp was to contribute to the growing community of environmentalists in the region and around the world, who were interested in establishing working relations between different environmental groups and movements, through enhancing regional cooperation and network.

On December 8th IDEA brought together the students and members of youth organizations for tree planting action. The action took place on the field of “Greening Department 2″ located on the 17th km of the highway from Heydar Aliyev Airport towards the city centre.

IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action), founded by Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, has represented Azerbaijan at Youth 21- Building for Change, Global Meeting held by the United Nations in Nairobi, Kenya on 15-18 March.The event kicked off with a letter of the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed to the forum.

The “Green Energy Camp” for young environmentalists was organized on 22-24 March 2012 in the Gobustan Experimental Training and Education Centre by IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action), initiated by Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, the Azerbaijani Student Youth Organizations’ Union, the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Resources and Tamiz Shahar JSC. The project aims to increase the knowledge of young ecologists about alternative energy resources, their mechanisms and working principles.

The aim of competition is to mobilize Azerbaijani youth to the “Rio+20” UN summit on sustainable development to be held in Rio-de-Janeiro in June of this year and to encourage them to think about the current global environmental problems that our planet is facing as well as about the potential global environmental threats.

The opening ceremony of the new IDEA Resource Center was held at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Azerbaijan on May 19, 2012. The event brought together IDEA founder Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, state and government officials, civil society organizations, students and journalists. The center is aimed at hosting short and long term training courses, seminars, roundtables and lectures on environmental topics both for students and specialists in this field.

“Baku Debate Forum” “Green Thinking Cup-2012” project realized by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC and IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Campaign was successfully implemented. In the event held on May 21 teams of two universities were awarded with Green Thinking Cup, and certificates were given to all the students that participated in debate forums.

IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Campaign, launched by Leyla Aliyeva on July 12, 2011 in Baku, held the last stage of environmental project competition titled “The Future You Want”, within the framework of the “IDEA Lectures” project.

IDEA Campaign Founder Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva on June 11 visited Geneva. During the visit, she held meetings at the Geneva branch of the United Nations, the Geneva office of UNICEF and UNEP regional office for Europe.

IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Campaign launched in July 2011 by Vice President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, started a new project named “Eco Cinema”, which is the first and unique in Azerbaijan. Biweekly environmental movie screening and subsequent discussions are supposed to be held in the framework of “Eco Cinema” project.

IDEA Campaign and “Tamiz Shahar JSC” jointly organized eco-summer school under the slogan of “For the sake of Clean City”. IDEA Campaign as the next phase of the project “IDEA Lectures» held a lecture on August 6, 2012 – World Day of Actions for Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. The event was held at the IDEA Resource Centre, located at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This event was attended by 20 students from different universities of Baku. During the lecture the students were given information about nuclear weapons, the dangers and possible consequences of its use.

Inspired by the success of previous exhibitions, IDEA Campaign teamed up with its national partners including Baku Museum of Modern Arts, the “Qiz Qalasi” Art Gallery, Baku Magazine, and Ichari Shahar State Historical and Architectural Reserve and organized exhibition of Gazelles under open air.

Summer School organized in cooperation with “Debate in Civil Society” , OSCE office in Baku, IDEA – International Dialogue for Environmental Action Campaign, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and Tamiz Shahar JSC.

Special trainings have been started at the Resource Centre of IDEA Campaign to increase the knowledge of volunteers to participate in project “IDEA For the Sake of Green Azerbaijan” on environmental issues.

Official opening ceremony of the “IDEA for Green Azerbaijan” project was held in front of the Maiden Tower (Baku) on September 24, 2012.

Azerbaijan for the first time will be represented in the above forum with the support of IDEA and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Lithuania.

IDEA Campaign and World Wild Fund (WWF) of Russia signed a cooperation agreement in Moscow on October 12, 2012. The agreement aims at restoration of the populations of leopards and bisons in the Caucasus and protection of the nature of the region. The cooperation agreement was signed by Mr. Igor Chestin, the director of WWF Russia and Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, initiator of the IDEA Campaign.
