Preliminary visit to Arazboyu nature sanctuary and Basitchay reserve

After nearly 3 decades of occupation and following the horrible acts of environmental destruction perpetrated during the withdrawal of Armenian forces and settlers from the liberated Azerbaijani territories, high priority restoration plans have been put forward by IDEA founder Leyla Aliyeva.

On January 28th, IDEA team together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources paid a preliminary visit to view the formerly occupied special protected areas of Azerbaijan, namely Arazboyu nature sanctuary and Basitchay reserve. The visit was planned under a long-term program to assess and restore the environment of the liberated areas that were neglected and exploited for decades, and actively engage international institutions and partners as well as local youth directly in the restoration processes. Having been acquainted with the extent of the damage, our representatives planted their first seeds and trees, marking initial small steps towards reviving forests and nature of Karabakh!
