The aim of competition is to mobilize Azerbaijani youth to the “Rio+20” UN summit on sustainable development to be held in Rio-de-Janeiro in June of this year and to encourage them to think about the current global environmental problems that our planet is facing as well as about the potential global environmental threats.
On April 27, 2012, the award ceremony of winners was organized at Hilton Baku hotel. Speaking at the event, Deputy Economic Development Minister Mr. Niyazi Safarov stressed the importance of forming the green thinking and psychology among young people. He said: “Today’s event is remarkable. The 21st century is marked with great environmental issues. In this view it is important to encourage green thinking young people”.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Intigam Babayev said IDEA is becoming famous throughout the world. “Today different projects and platforms are organized that bring young people together. IDEA campaign is a platform that is already famous on a global scale. The project carried out by the campaign now is on the agenda for its urgency. IDEA managed to attain high achievements in a very short period of time and I believe that greater achievements will be in the future”, he said.
Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mr. Firdovsi Aliyev said the world community has been attentively following the environmental actions carried in Azerbaijan over the past ten years. “Economic growth further intensifies the existing environmental problems. Huge works have been carried out in Azerbaijan to solve environmental problems, thanks to the fact that the year of 2010 was announced as the Year of Ecology by the President.”
Mr. Tural Maharramov, student of the National Aviation Academy, was awarded the first place, while the second and third places went to Ms. Nurana Akhundzade, student of the Baku State University, and Ms. Alla Savelyeva, student of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, respectively.
