In May 2012, on the occasion of International Migratory Bird Day, the IDEA campaign, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, announced a Birdhouse Design tender.

Local and foreign designers, environmentalists, youth activists with a background in environmental science and expertise could submit a design proposal for birdhouses. The goal of the project was to construct a number of birdhouses in and around Baku to provide nesting birds with safe shelters to lay eggs and raise fledglings and to shelter birds from harsh weather conditions.

A special jury was formed to assess over 100 works presented to the competition, and the work of 26-year-old Mrs. Tatyana Biryugina from Kyrgyzstan won the first place.

IDEA birdhouses have already been installed by IDEA volunteers in parks and residential areas in Baku, Moscow, Bishkek, Minsk and Vilnius in April-May 2013.  The installation of the birdhouses was dedicated to the International Migratory Bird Day.
