Over the past years, various environmental and social projects in Azerbaijan have been launched at the initiative of the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and IDEA founder Leyla Aliyeva. IDEA Public Union attaches special importance to waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and runs a wide range of promotion and awareness-raising activities in this regard. It should be mentioned that thousands of tons of paper and plastic waste are being collected and sent for recycling through special recycling bins placed in hundreds of offices and institutions by IDEA since 2017. Soon, the organization is also planning to locate containers to start the proper disposition of used batteries in Baku.

As with other products, the dumping and decomposition of clothes negatively impacts the environment. The damage is caused by toxic substances and gases released to nature during the decay of waste products as well as during of the production of new products.

Considering positive effects of reuse on the environment and the high demand for clothes, IDEA has installed donation bins at various places in the city, where people can drop off their unneeded clothes. The bins have already been placed in three “Bravo” hypermarkets as well as the “Bravo” superstore and “SOCAR Petroleum” gas station located on Babek avenue. More donation units are expected to appear across the capital in the near future.

IDEA Public Union calls on the citizens to extend their helping hand to those in need and, at the same time, help save the environment by donating their usable wardrobe items, instead of sending them to landfill. People are kindly requested to wash or clean the donated items before donating them, and to not throw garbage or unrelated items in these bins.

Items collected in the donation bins will be distributed to people on a regular basis through charity organization such as Birlik and Guven Charity and Friendship Society. Charities that are interested in joining the project may contact IDEA Public Union (Tel: 012 497 6316).
