A cleaning campaign was held on the occasion of World Environment Day 2021

In connection with the opening of the beach season, on June 5, the next traditional coastal cleanup campaign was organized jointly by the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, and “Clean City” JSC.
The cleanup campaign, dedicated to World Environment Day, was held in the Shüvəlan beach area. Conducted under the slogan "Keep the Shores Clean," this was the 16th campaign involving youth participation along the Caspian Sea coast.
The main goal of the event is to promote cleanliness on the seaside, prevent coastal areas from being littered with household waste, and involve all young people in the fight for the protection of the marine environment.
During the event, participants equipped with the necessary sanitary supplies sorted the collected waste and identified the most commonly observed trash on the beaches. To make the waste collection process more efficient, special equipment was also deployed in the area. Afterwards, all collected waste was handed over to the Baku Balakhani Solid Household Waste Sorting Plant.
It should be noted that on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and leader of the IDEA Public Union, public beaches have been created in the capital to clean and improve neglected coastal areas, provide the necessary conditions for people to rest comfortably, improve public health and hygiene, and promote ecological and social responsibility. Organized by the IDEA Public Union, a total of six public beaches—Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshagi, and Sahil settlement beaches—have been made available to the public. On these beaches, in order for people to enjoy their time comfortably, cleanly, and safely at no cost, seating and sanitary facilities have been installed, football and volleyball courts set up, trash bins placed, a rescue station of the Ministry of Emergency Situations established, and, according to demand, shelters, changing and shower cabins, sanitary units, rest areas, and more have been provided.
This year, considering that World Environment Day is dedicated to the theme of "Ecosystem Restoration," the IDEA Public Union called on everyone to unite for the well-being of present and future generations:
“We cannot turn back time, but we can plant trees, green our cities, restore our forests, eat healthily, and clean our shores. We are a generation that can live in harmony with nature. Let us be active, not worried, for the future! Let us be brave, not hesitant, for our nature! Let us unite for the sake of our Planet and treat the blessings that nature has given us with care!”
