A project on the registration and numbering of trees has been launched in Baku at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union.

The main goal of the project, which will be implemented through the joint cooperation of the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, local executive authorities, and municipalities, is to ensure the protection of green spaces, including reducing instances of interference, establishing an accurate inventory and verifying data, forming and maintaining a registry, and strengthening public oversight.

With the participation of Leyla Aliyeva, the registration of the first trees under the project was carried out in Atatürk Park, located in the Narimanov district of Baku, and numbered tags were attached to them.

The registration work will cover all green areas in the city's administrative territory, including parks, roadside areas, and residential neighborhoods. The process will be carried out by pre-organized groups, attaching specially prepared numbered tags to each tree and collecting accurate information about each tree in an electronic database. The Narimanov district was chosen as the initial area for registration.

During the development of the project, the experiences of certain local administrative units in countries such as the USA, the UK, Germany, and Austria were studied, and a similar methodology was used.

A special application is used for the registration of trees, which automatically adds GPS coordinates of the area, time and date, and other necessary identifying information to the photo taken. Information on the tree's species, dimensions, age, condition, and other data is recorded in the green space registration sheet and entered into a centralized system.

Numbering is carried out using a completely harmless method. The tags attached to the tree trunks are made of durable material and display the tree's number and a QR code linking to the tree's individual profile.

A special website is being created for entering information about registered green areas and presenting it to the public. On this website, trees will be displayed on a map, and each will show a photo and all relevant information.

As is known, trees counteract climate change, help preserve biodiversity, provide us with clean air, and sustain our lives. It is estimated that approximately 15 billion trees are cut down each year by humans for agriculture and other purposes. Unfortunately, illegal destruction of green spaces also occurs in our country, making it necessary to conduct consistent and more stringent protection and monitoring measures for a complete and permanent solution to the problem.

It should be noted that through the joint efforts of the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, consistent measures are being implemented in the country to protect green spaces, including programs such as "Say No to Tree Cutting!" to prevent illegal felling and destruction of trees, and projects such as "Green Marathon" and "From Fire to Green" for the restoration and expansion of green areas.

Partners of the tree registration and numbering project in Baku call on everyone to support the protection and increase of green spaces and to unite for the green future of our nature.
