Fruit orchards have been established for low-income families in Agjabedi and Barda

On April 17 in Agjabadi and on April 18 in Barda districts, fruit orchards were established for low-income families through the joint initiative of the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
During the tree-planting campaigns, 1,000 pomegranate trees were planted on 2 hectares of land allocated in both districts. The established fruit orchards were distributed among low-income families living in these districts, including families of martyrs, for their free use. Low-income families will have the opportunity to care for these orchards, harvest the produce, earn income, and improve their financial well-being.
The pilot project for planting fruit trees was launched in April 2017 on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, and goodwill ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Within the framework of the project, the first fruit orchard was established in Ismayilli, and later in Shamkir, Agstafa, Tovuz, Agdash, Gakh, Lankaran, Beylagan, and Sabirabad districts, and provided for the use of low-income families, including war veterans of the Karabakh conflict and families of martyrs.
The socio-economic significance of the project lies in the fact that the establishment of such orchards contributes not only to improving the well-being of the population but also to reducing the country’s dependence on the import of agricultural products.
Within the framework of the project, nearly 13,000 fruit trees, including hazelnut, pomegranate, apricot, feijoa, and persimmon, were planted, and 38 low-income families were provided with fruit orchards.
As part of the project for establishing fruit orchards for low-income families, tree-planting campaigns will be organized in October–November in Imishli, Gazakh, Gabala, Goygol, Lerik, and Guba districts, and in the future, in other districts of the country as well.
It should be noted that 400 local young volunteers joined the campaigns organized for establishing fruit orchards in Agjabadi and Barda districts. IDEA, remaining attentive to the environment, expresses its gratitude to all volunteers who participated in the campaign and to the organizations that supported the event.
