On May 6-7, 2015, a seminar on “Endangered Fauna Species in Azerbaijan and Recently Described New Species” was organized at the Resource Center of the IDEA Public Union.

The seminar, consisting of theoretical and practical parts, was attended by about 40 young people studying or working in geography, biology, ecology, and other related fields.

In the theoretical part of the seminar, Elshad Asgarov, director of the Azerbaijan office of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), spoke as an expert. The expert delivered a comprehensive lecture on species facing the threat of extinction in Azerbaijan, their protection, and the mammalian fauna of Azerbaijan. At the end of the lecture, discussions and a question-and-answer session were held with the participants. The seminar was met with great interest by the participants and contributed to the deepening of their knowledge.

During the practical part, participants visited the Zoological Museum under the Institute of Zoology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and got acquainted with more than a thousand exhibits made of cardboard, skeletons, and collections representing the animal world of Azerbaijan and the world. They also closely studied insect fauna in the Laboratory of Fauna and Systematics of Larvae (Entomology Laboratory).

IDEA regularly organizes training sessions, seminars, ecology-themed films, and courses at the Resource Center located at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, aiming to increase the ecological knowledge of young people studying in the fields of environment and sustainable development, direct their attention to solving ecological problems, and help them observe expert approaches to important ecological topics.
