On June 16, a model public beach in the Shikh area, established on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, was opened for citizens. The opening of the vast free beach, covering approximately 5 hectares, coincided with the start of the beach season in Baku.

Extensive landscaping works have been carried out at this public beach, which was created last year. A rescue station of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been established, kiosks offering refreshing drinks and various food products, sufficient shades according to demand, changing rooms and shower cabins, sanitary facilities, and seating areas have been installed. Football and volleyball courts, a parking lot, and an asphalt road leading to the seashore have also been constructed. Ample seating and sunbeds have been provided for citizens’ recreation, and garbage containers have been placed throughout the area.

In accordance with the requirements of the quarantine period, medical and preventive measures have been implemented on the beach. Barriers have been set up to ensure people maintain proper distance, disinfectant dispensers have been installed, and educational boards have been placed to warn visitors to follow quarantine and safety rules, as well as maintain cleanliness.

During the opening of the renovated public beach, a small cleaning campaign was held with the participation of 10 IDEA volunteers, observing the special quarantine rules, and the area was cleared of waste.

It should be noted that access to the public beaches created by the IDEA Public Union and the use of other services are completely free of charge. The purpose of creating these beaches is to clean and improve neglected coastal areas, provide necessary conditions for comfortable recreation, enhance public health and hygiene, and promote ecological and social responsibility.

The IDEA Public Union, together with local and international partners, implements large-scale projects aimed at the protection and restoration of water bioresources in Azerbaijan and the region, and regularly organizes mass cleaning campaigns on the Caspian coasts, as well as on the Kura and other rivers.

The IDEA Public Union calls on everyone to strictly follow the requirements of the quarantine regime, comply with sanitary and hygiene standards, pay attention to keeping the coasts clean in order to always enjoy the natural beauty and the created conditions, avoid polluting the environment, and ensure that no waste is left behind.
