A cleanup campaign was organized in connection with International Coastal Cleanup Day

On September 14, the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, “Clean City” JSC, and the Baku Transport Agency jointly organized the next traditional coastal cleanup campaign.
The cleanup campaign, held in connection with International Coastal Cleanup Day and the end of the beach season, was organized at the public beach established in the Buzovna settlement on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union. The participation of more than 400 young people in this event demonstrates the great interest in this work.
The main goal of the event is to promote cleanliness on the seashores, prevent coastal areas from being littered with household waste, and engage all young people in the fight for the protection of the marine environment.
It should be noted that the IDEA Public Union began creating public beaches in the capital's coastal areas in August of this year as an alternative to existing private recreation centers and paid beaches. On the initiative of the Union, a total of six public beaches were opened for public use in the areas of Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshagi, and Sahil settlements. Chairs and sanitary facilities were installed, volleyball courts were set up, and trash bins were placed at these beaches to allow people to rest comfortably, cleanly, and safely for free. Currently, the cleanup campaign held under the slogan “Keep the Shores Clean” is the 14th event of its kind, with massive youth participation along the Caspian Sea coast.
During the event, participants, equipped with necessary sanitary supplies, collected nearly 3 tons of waste from the beach under the music played by DJs. Later, the collected waste was sorted, and the most commonly observed trash on the beaches was identified. Special equipment was brought to the area to make the waste collection process more efficient.
The IDEA Public Union, together with local and international partners, regularly organizes cleanup campaigns along the Caspian coast, as well as in the Kura and other rivers, to protect, increase, and preserve Azerbaijan’s and the region’s water bioresources. The Union calls on all nature lovers not to remain indifferent to the campaigns organized to address environmental problems and to contribute to the protection of the environment.
