On September 18, in connection with International Coastal Cleanup Day, a traditional coastal cleanup event was organized jointly by the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, and “Clean City” JSC.

Under the slogan “Keep the Shores Clean,” the event took place in the Bilgah beach area and was attended by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, more than 100 volunteer youth, and representatives of partner organizations.

The main purpose of the event was to promote cleanliness on the seashores, prevent the pollution of coastal areas with household waste, and engage all young people in the fight for the protection of the coastal environment.

During the event, participants, equipped with necessary sanitary supplies, sorted the collected waste and identified the most commonly observed litter on the beaches. Special equipment was also brought to the area to organize the waste collection process more effectively. Later, all collected waste was handed over to the Baku Household Waste Sorting Plant in Balakhani.

It should be noted that, at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, public beaches have been created in the capital to clean and improve neglected coastal areas, provide the necessary conditions for people to rest comfortably, improve public health and hygiene, and promote ecological and social responsibility. Under the organization of the IDEA Public Union, six public beaches, including those in Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshagi, and Sahil settlements, have been made available for public use. At these beaches, seating and sanitary facilities have been installed for people to relax in a comfortable, clean, and safe environment, football and volleyball courts have been created, trash bins have been placed, a rescue station of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been established, and, according to demand, shades, changing and shower cabins, sanitary facilities, and resting areas have been installed.

This year, more than 50 million volunteers from over 180 countries joined the global movement dedicated to International Coastal Cleanup Day. The IDEA Public Union expresses its deep gratitude to all volunteers and partner organizations who have shown special activity in the organized cleanup events, who start with themselves in making the world better, and who generously contribute to beautifying our Planet.
