Another cleaning campaign was organized at Buzovna Beach.

In connection with the opening of the beach season, on June 10, the IDEA Public Union, Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, the UN Representation in Azerbaijan, and “Təmiz Şəhər” JSC jointly organized the next traditional coastal cleanup campaign.
The cleanup campaign was held at Buzovna Beach as part of the “Green Week” series of events dedicated to World Environment Day. It should be noted that the cleanup campaign conducted under the slogan “Keep the Shores Clean” was the 9th event of its kind with massive youth participation along the Caspian Sea coast.
Representatives from the UN Representation in Azerbaijan, UNDP, UNICEF, and FAO, as well as over 300 volunteer youths, joined the campaign.
The main goal of the event was to promote cleanliness along the sea shores, prevent littering of coastal areas with household waste, and involve all young people in the fight for the protection of the marine environment.
During the event, participants equipped with necessary sanitary supplies collected nearly 5 tons of waste from the beach. The collected waste was then sorted to identify the most commonly observed litter on the beaches. Special equipment (small tractors) was deployed to make the waste collection process more efficient. Subsequently, all waste was delivered to the Baku Baku Household Waste Sorting Plant in Balakhani.
After collecting the waste, the youths practiced yoga together on the cleaned area, and later enjoyed themselves with sports such as football, badminton, and others, accompanied by pleasant acoustic guitar sounds.
The IDEA Public Union, together with local and international partners, regularly organizes cleanup campaigns along the Caspian shores, the Kura River, and other rivers to preserve, enhance, and protect water bioresources in Azerbaijan and the region.
Each year, World Environment Day is held under a specific slogan, and this year’s slogan was “Beat Plastic Pollution” (#BeatPlasticPollution). This is due to the increasing negative impact on the environment and biodiversity caused by the growing dependence on plastic products worldwide. The fact that the majority of waste collected during the coastal cleanup campaigns consists of plastic litter is a clear illustration of this issue. Measures for recycling, reusing, and reducing plastic waste are the main solution to this problem, in which young people play an important role.
The campaign partners thank all nature-loving youths who joined the event and call on everyone to avoid polluting our Planet and to take care of the environment!
