The ecological summer camp “Let’s Protect the Gazelles!”, organized by the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijan branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) within the framework of the “Reintroduction of Gazelles to Their Historically Inhabited Areas in the Caucasus” program, has successfully concluded. The camp, which hosted more than 60 schoolchildren from Yenikənd, Şəkərli, Kürsəngi villages of Salyan district and Tatarməhəllə village of Neftçala district, was held in Salyan district from June 21 to 23.

The main goal of the ecological summer camp “Let’s Protect the Gazelles!” was to educate the younger generation living in areas where gazelles have been reintroduced, including locations near their natural habitats, about this species. During the camp, participants received extensive information about the lifestyle of gazelles, the regions they inhabit, and their role in nature. Children also participated in various small ecological research activities, quizzes, and competitions, watched the documentary film “Azerbaijan. Saving the Gazelles” directed by Igor Bışnyov, and took an excursion to Shirvan National Park to meet the gazelles in person. At the conclusion of the camp, participants were awarded certificates and commemorative gifts.

The “Reintroduction of Gazelles to Their Historically Inhabited Areas in the Caucasus” program was initiated in 2010 by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and is currently successfully implemented through the joint cooperation of the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the WWF Azerbaijan branch. Over the years, more than 150 gazelles have been reintroduced from Shirvan National Park to areas in Azerbaijan and Georgia where they historically lived, and ongoing monitoring and conservation efforts are being carried out.

Ecological and biodiversity-themed camps have been regularly organized since 2014 by the IDEA Public Union, the Azerbaijan branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During this period, more than 300 schoolchildren from Goranboy, Samukh, Qakh, Shaki, Masalli, Jalilabad, Yardimli, Lankaran, and Astara districts have participated in the camps.
