As reported, the 21st UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) is being held in Paris.

The First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, and the Foundation’s Vice-President, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva attended the conference on December 4.

COP21 Conference Secretary-General, Ambassador Pier Henri Quiqnard welcomed First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and Leyla Aliyeva.

Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, spoke at an event on “Innovative Approaches for Low-Carbon Development and Climate Resilience” organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Europe within the conference framework.

This event was dedicated to measures for ensuring sustainable development in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as well as environmental protection efforts. Leyla Aliyeva, invited as a special guest, shared her thoughts on the topic and discussed the experience of the IDEA Public Union in this area.

In her speech, Leyla Aliyeva touched upon the pressing environmental issues facing humanity and proposed solutions for addressing them. It was noted that the international community has a moral obligation to future generations to create conditions for the survival and development of ecosystems, as well as rare flora and fauna species. Achieving this goal is not beyond our capabilities; on the contrary, it is in our hands. The primary source of environmental degradation is negative human activity.

The speech also emphasized that ecological threats recognize no borders and no state is immune from these dangers. Therefore, coordinated action by the world community is essential.

Leyla Aliyeva provided participants with detailed information about Azerbaijan’s advantageous geographical location, nature, rich flora and fauna, and favorable climatic conditions. In this context, the work carried out and the progress observed in the field of nature and environmental protection in the country was highlighted. The speech also covered the activities of the IDEA Public Union, including addressing environmental problems in the country and region, biodiversity conservation, promotion of sustainable development, advocacy for a humane attitude towards animals in society, deepening young people’s environmental knowledge, and other achievements.

The speech attracted wide interest from participants, and Leyla Aliyeva answered questions from the audience regarding Azerbaijan and the activities of the IDEA Public Union.
