World-renowned specialist Professor David Macdonald visited our country.

At the invitation of Leyla Aliyeva, Founder and Head of the IDEA Public Association, the Director of the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCru) operating under the Department of Zoology of the University of Oxford, world-renowned specialist in biodiversity conservation Professor David Macdonald visited our country on October 19–22.

Within the framework of the visit, Professor Macdonald held meetings with the IDEA Public Association and the Azerbaijan Representative Office of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), during which discussions were held regarding the activities of both organizations.

D. Macdonald also met with the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Huseyngulu Bagirov, and became closely acquainted with the state policy implemented in our country in the field of environmental protection.

In addition, on October 19, an extensive lecture by Professor Macdonald on biodiversity conservation was held at ADA University. D. Macdonald addressed issues such as biodiversity and its conservation, work carried out in this field, and problems related to the protection of biological diversity, and also provided detailed information about the activities of the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit he directs, especially the projects it implements in various countries.

More than 100 IDEA volunteers and students of ADA University studying in the fields of environment and sustainable development participated in the extensive lecture presented. The lecture was received with great interest by young people and contributed to deepening their knowledge. At the end of the presentation, interactive discussions were held with the participants.

Founded by Professor Macdonald in 1986, “WildCru” is considered the world’s largest institute specializing in nature conservation. The main goal of “WildCru” is to eliminate gaps observed in biodiversity conservation by creating a bridge between scientific theory and practical measures. Currently, nearly 50 scientific staff members of the organization lead projects implemented in various countries for the conservation of fauna species.
