Organized for the first time in Azerbaijan and covering more than 50 countries worldwide, the “Eco Art Diary 2013” international ecological competition was initiated by the IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) campaign, founded by Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Under the auspices of UNESCO and organized by the Heydar Aliyev Center, the IDEA campaign, and Panasonic Marketing CIS (PMCIS), the international project involved 363 schools across Baku and Ganja. The winner of the national competition round was 11-year-old Fuad Soltanov, a student of Baku European Lyceum.

Among the finalists were students from the Zərifə Aliyeva Lyceum, “Ankara School” Lyceum, Art Gymnasium, and schools No. 59, 99, 262, 271, 276, 290, 28, 98, 132-134, 301, 304 in Baku, as well as schools No. 4, 28, 11, 25 in Ganja.

It should be noted that 2,403 diaries were submitted from 314 schools in Baku, and 629 diaries from 49 schools in Ganja.

Out of the 5,000 ecological diaries specially prepared for the project and distributed to general education schools according to the number of students, 3,032 were fully completed and submitted on time.

In total, the competition involved 3,032 students, with 1,299 participants in the younger age group (6-11) and 1,733 participants in the older age group (12-15).

Students participating in the national round of the project created drawings in special “Diaries” prepared for the competition, reflecting existing global ecological problems and the importance of environmental protection, and included short texts describing their ideas.

It should be noted that since 2008, the “Eco Art Diary” international competition, covering more than 50 countries, aims to foster and develop a love of nature among the younger generation, strengthen ecological awareness, and mobilize schoolchildren to protect the environment. The project also serves to cultivate an active civic position in protecting the environment and human health.
