Fish fry have been released into the territory of Goygol National Park

On May 8, within the framework of the large-scale “Rich Reservoirs” project aimed at the protection and restoration of Azerbaijan’s inland water bioresources, jointly organized by the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the next release of fish fry was carried out. During the event, 5,000 juveniles of the goldfish were released into Lake Goygol with the participation of young volunteers.
As is known, in recent decades, the natural populations of fish species in the country’s water bodies have reached the brink of extinction due to the negative impacts of human activities.
In this regard, on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, a number of important initiatives are being implemented for the conservation and restoration of the aquatic fauna of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region.
The “Rich Reservoirs” project envisages increasing the natural populations of fish species, releasing various types of fish fry raised in fish farms into their natural habitats, as well as reducing pollution in inland water bodies and implementing measures to promote legal and responsible fishing.
It should be noted that since the start of the project in May of last year, nearly 2 million fish fry of various species have been released in total.
The “Rich Reservoirs” project also coincides with the four-month moratorium announced from May 1 in connection with the fish spawning period. In this regard, the project organizers call on all citizens to actively participate in the conservation of fish stocks, prevent illegal fishing methods, support and promote responsible fishing, and refrain from any actions that hinder the growth of fish populations.
Let us restore and protect Azerbaijan’s rare and valuable water bioresources and fragile ecosystems together!
