On the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and organized by the IDEA Animal Care Center Public Union with the support of Təmiz Şəhər ASC, a campaign for the mass sterilization, vaccination, and tagging of stray dogs in the Balakhani settlement of Baku was launched on November 15. Veterinarians who came to our country on a voluntary basis from Germany are also participating in the event. The campaign, which will continue until November 24, is being held at the veterinary clinic of the IDEA Animal Care Center.

As is known, the Balakhani settlement of Baku, especially the municipal solid waste landfill owned by Təmiz Şəhər ASC and the shelter for stray dogs under the Baku City Executive Power’s Housing and Communal Services Department, are the areas with the highest concentration of street dogs. In this regard, during the organized campaign, the dogs present in these areas will be sterilized.

The rapid increase in the population of stray pets in Baku and its surroundings causes many problems, including posing a threat to the health of both people and animals. It should be noted that a single female dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in just seven years.

The CVNR method (catch-neuter-vaccinate-release), applied in many countries, is the most effective and humane way to control the number of stray street animals and ensure their welfare. Therefore, since its inception, the IDEA Animal Care Center has been actively engaged in the sterilization and vaccination of animals, thereby preventing uncontrolled reproduction and the spread of rabies among them.
