On November 19, with the participation of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, 10 parrots were released in Baku's Atatürk Park. Within the framework of IDEA's “Urban Ecology” project, the ring-necked parrot (lat. Psittacula krameri) settled in the park is a species that can live and reproduce in the climatic conditions of Baku.

The “Urban Ecology” project envisions enriching public spaces in Baku and its surroundings with animal and bird species that can comfortably live and reproduce in the urban environment, as well as implementing consistent measures for the conservation of these species.

As is known, alongside multifaceted efforts for the preservation of wildlife, extensive measures are also being carried out under Leyla Aliyeva’s initiative for the protection of species belonging to the urban environment. In this regard, the IDEA Animal Care Center operates in Baku to protect street animals, special shelters are built for cats throughout the city, and other related activities are carried out.

The main goal of all these efforts is to create harmony between city residents and the environment and to strengthen closer and healthier connections.

It should be noted that in the past, numerous squirrels and parrots had settled in Baku, freely moving among people in parks and other green areas. However, by the end of the last century, the number of these species sharply declined due to existing ecological problems. In recent years, extensive landscaping and greening efforts in the country, especially the efforts of the IDEA Public Union, have created favorable conditions for the reintroduction of many fauna species in Baku, thanks to the reduction of illegal tree cutting and the planting of countless new trees.
