On February 10-11, 2015, a seminar on “Ecological Problems Caused by the Oil Industry and Ways to Solve Them” was organized at the Resource Center of the IDEA Public Union.

About 40 young people studying ecology, oil and gas engineering, and other related fields, or working in these areas, participated in the seminar, which included both theoretical and practical parts.

In the theoretical part of the seminar, a specialist from the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) gave a lecture on ecological problems caused by the oil industry and ways to eliminate them, ecological standards in the oil production industry, the country’s rich experience in this field, and international norms. At the end of the lecture, discussions and a question-and-answer session were held on the topic.

During the practical part, participants visited SOCAR’s “Eco Park” and got acquainted with the Complex Research Laboratory. The young participants closely examined the equipment used in the laboratory, its purpose, and operating principles, observed the analysis process of samples taken from the sea and land, and had the opportunity to test the theoretical knowledge they had gained during the lecture in practice.

IDEA regularly organizes scientific sessions, practical training, and debates in English on environmental topics. Information about courses and seminars is communicated to the public through IDEA’s online services (website, Instagram, and Facebook pages).
