On October 9, 2014, the groundbreaking ceremony for the IDEA Public Union’s animal shelter was held with the participation of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union.

During the ceremony, Leyla Aliyeva closely examined the project and model of the center. She was provided with detailed information about the new shelter to be built.

It was noted that the shelter is designed to create conditions for the temporary or permanent accommodation of stray or abandoned companion animals, particularly dogs and cats, and will include a fully equipped veterinary clinic where animals can be examined and treated, and, if necessary, undergo surgical procedures.

The center plans to organize training and professional development courses for local veterinarians, as well as special tours for schoolchildren. To this end, the project includes the construction of dedicated training rooms and the provision of the latest equipment.

The design of the center, which will accommodate up to 5,000 companion animals, particularly dogs and cats, at the same time, takes into account the experience of other countries. In addition to stray and abandoned dogs and cats, the shelter will be able to examine and treat animal species rarely found in urban environments, such as horses, certain bird species, and others.

The purpose of establishing this shelter and feeding station is to reduce the number of stray animals in the streets of Baku and surrounding districts, prevent their illegal killing, and stop the transmission of diseases, such as rabies, which are commonly found in these animals, to humans.
