The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has granted IDEA Public Union the status of the official country coordinator for the international “Earth Hour” campaign ([www.earthhour.org](http://www.earthhour.org)) in Azerbaijan.

The “Earth Hour” campaign was first initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007 in Australia. The purpose of the campaign is to draw public attention to the threats posed by climate change.

During “Earth Hour” events, the façade lights of famous buildings in large cities are turned off for one hour at 8:30 PM local time, and through this symbolic action, participants promote energy conservation.

As is well known, greenhouse gas emissions resulting from electricity generation are considered one of the main causes of climate change. In this context, the sustainable use of energy is particularly emphasized during “Earth Hour” events.

Each year, the international public shows increasing attention to the “Earth Hour” campaign, which is observed on the last Saturday of March. As a result, in 2014, more than 7,000 cities in 162 countries around the world and nearly one billion people joined the campaign.

As the official country coordinator in Azerbaijan, IDEA Public Union has obtained the right to organize mass actions and events within the framework of the “Earth Hour” campaign in the country.

IDEA Public Union invites state and private organizations, as well as individuals, who wish to participate in the “Earth Hour” campaign in Baku on March 28, 2015, to contact the Public Union ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), tel. 497-6316).
