A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between IDEA and the World Tourism Organization.

On June 17, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva held a meeting with Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between IDEA and UNWTO was signed. The Memorandum of Understanding defines the framework for future activities and areas of cooperation between the parties. According to the document, the two organizations will make joint efforts to promote tourism as one of the factors influencing environmental sustainability.

After the signing ceremony, a bilateral meeting was held between Leyla Aliyeva and Zurab Pololikashvili. At the meeting, Leyla Aliyeva praised the activities carried out by UNWTO to coordinate global tourism development and emphasized the importance of tourism sector development for the planet’s sustainable future. Noting the abundant natural resources and diverse geographical landscape of Azerbaijan, along with its rich cultural heritage and modern infrastructure, she expressed confidence that the joint projects to be implemented would make a significant contribution to the development of ecotourism in the country.

Zurab Pololikashvili expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of cooperation between the organization he leads and IDEA, noting that there are extensive opportunities to further develop Azerbaijan’s potential as an attractive tourism destination.

The parties discussed prospects for implementing joint projects and organizing international events in Azerbaijan and the region.
