On June 21, at the address Asif Maharramov 15 in the Nasimi district of Baku, new trees were planted on the site of destroyed greenery at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union.

During the tree-planting campaign, carried out at the initiative of the IDEA Public Union and with the support of the Nasimi District Executive Authority, in addition to restoring greenery in the area, landscaping work was carried out, and a small playground with sports equipment, as well as entertainment facilities for children, was installed and put into use to promote a healthy lifestyle and to organize leisure time effectively for local residents.

It should be noted that on June 14, 2017, a complaint regarding the destruction of this greenery was received via the IDEA Public Union’s “Nature Emergency” hotline No. 1113. IDEA’s mobile team immediately inspected the area and recorded the felling of 20 trees. The destruction of trees, which had served the recreation and health of local residents for many years, could have damaged the city’s environment and posed a threat to public health. Therefore, at the initiative of the IDEA Public Union, which works to protect ecology and biodiversity and has achieved success in these fields, greenery in the area was restored.

Approximately 300 complaints from citizens regarding illegal tree cutting in Baku were reviewed by the “Say No to Tree Cutting” program, a joint project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the IDEA Public Union, and measures were taken to resolve them positively. As a result of the successful implementation of the program, there has been a significant reduction in cases of greenery destruction in the capital. In addition to preventive measures, since its establishment, the large-scale tree-planting campaigns carried out by the IDEA Public Union have resulted in more than 5 million trees being planted across the country.

The purpose of IDEA’s greening projects is to restore ecological balance, contribute to increasing green zones, draw public attention to the preservation of greenery, and strengthen public oversight in environmental protection.

The IDEA Public Union calls on all citizens to contribute to the protection of greenery in Baku and to immediately report any cases of illegal tree cutting to the specially created hotline (all mobile operators and city phones: 1113).
