Within the framework of the IDEA campaign (International Dialogue for Environmental Protection), conceived by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and head of the Russian Azerbaijani Youth Organization (AMOR), November 2011 has been declared Ecology Month with the slogan “Let’s Protect Our Environment.” The campaign aims to raise public awareness of environmental problems that are currently a serious concern for humanity, pose a significant threat to future generations, and require urgent solutions.

Amid the rapid development of economic relations in a globalizing world, humanity has experienced an improvement in welfare alongside the emergence of global environmental problems caused by human activity. Regardless of geographical location, the global nature of these problems necessitates a conscious approach by each individual and changes in their daily activities.

To this end, awareness-raising activities are planned in various regions and districts of Azerbaijan. During the month, “Green Weeks” are planned to be held at higher education institutions in cooperation with the Public Union “Union of Azerbaijani Student Youth Organizations.” In schools, informative discussions on environmental protection will be conducted. Within the project framework, a charity football match will also take place.

An international group of young mountaineers will organize an expedition to one of Azerbaijan’s high mountain peaks, carrying out cleaning activities dedicated to environmental protection. As part of the initiative, from November 24 to 27, 2011, an international camp for young ecologists is planned to be held in Gabala in cooperation with the UN and the Council of Europe.
