On March 18, the first “SƏMƏNİ” International Art Competition was held in the park of the Heydar Aliyev Center. The project, implemented on the initiative and organization of the Heydar Aliyev Center, was also joined by IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Protection) Public Union.

The competition-exhibition, which showcased səməni projects of various designs and forms, was visited by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and head of IDEA Public Union.

The “səməni” presented by IDEA, with the idea authored by Leyla Aliyeva, attracted visitors’ attention with its unique design. The artwork was made from used paper, metal, plastic products, wheels, and other material pieces. At the center of the “Səməni,” its leaves are artificially ventilated by a motor powered by an alternative energy source. When the bicycles installed on both sides of the “Səməni” are moved in place, the energy generated is transferred to the “Səməni” motor, resulting in artificial ventilation of the “Səməni.”

The art piece made from waste calls for environmental protection, based on IDEA’s “3R” (“Reuse, Reduce, Recycle”) principle.

In addition, along with the “səməni” presented by IDEA, a special device reflecting the “Ecological Responsibility Agreement” was also received with interest. A person promising to protect the Earth and consistently strive for environmental protection confirms their promise by pressing the button located at the bottom of the device. Leyla Aliyeva was the first to press the button and was awarded a special certificate for her initiative in presenting the səməni project and committing to the “Ecological Responsibility Agreement.”

The “SƏMƏNİ” project aims to preserve our national customs and values, as well as to promote and showcase Novruz, the festival of nature, through the language of contemporary art.
