The ecological education program titled “Let’s Protect the Environment Together,” initiated by the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Education’s Republican Center for Ecological Education and Practicum to further strengthen environmental awareness in schools and engage people in solving environmental problems from an early age, continues.

The April training sessions of the program were dedicated to the topic of “bioethics, bionics, and biotechnology.” Trainings held in April were organized in the eco-clubs of the Republican Humanitarian Subjects Gymnasium named after S.C. Pişəvəri, the Elitar Gymnasium, and Secondary School No. 46 named after Ağabəy Novruzbəyli in Baku city.

The training, consisting of theoretical and practical parts, provided students in the theoretical section with extensive information on the basic principles of bioethics, proper conduct towards the environment, especially animals, cloning, hybridization, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), and antibiotics. During the practical sessions, students participated in interactive activities and experiments, group work, crossword puzzles and tests, as well as quizzes, all in accordance with the theme of the month.

In general, within the framework of the “Let’s Protect the Environment Together” program in 2016, it was planned to organize trainings on various ecological topics for the members of “Eco-clubs” operating in other pilot secondary schools in Baku city, covering the basics of ecology, plant and animal ecology, human ecology, urban ecology and future cities, climate change, alternative energy, biodiversity and its conservation, forest ecology, ecological green tourism, and more.
