The ecological education program on the topic “Let’s Protect the Environment Together,” launched by IDEA Public Union in cooperation with the Republican Center for Ecological Education and Practice of the Ministry of Education to further strengthen ecological awareness in schools and involve people in solving environmental problems from an early age, continues.

The March training sessions of the program were dedicated to the topic of “waste management.” Trainings on waste were organized at School No. 214 named after Vugar Sadigov in Baku, the Republican Gymnasium with a focus on Humanities, and the Lyceum with a focus on Physics, Mathematics, and Informatics.

The theoretical and practical parts of the training included providing students with comprehensive information on waste, its impact on the environment, waste sorting and recycling, methods to reduce household waste, disposal, solid household waste, solutions to the household waste problem in Azerbaijan, and types of hazardous pollutants. During the practical part, students participated in interactive activities on waste, experiments on reduction and reuse, group work, solving crosswords and tests, and quizzes.

Additionally, in line with this month’s topic, excursions were organized for students to the “From Waste to Art” museum in the Gala settlement and the “Azerbaijan Paper and Cardboard Production Plant.”

In general, within the framework of the “Let’s Protect the Environment Together” program in 2016, it is planned to organize trainings for members of the "Eco Club" operating in other pilot secondary schools in Baku, covering various ecological topics such as the basics of ecology, plant and animal ecology, human ecology, urban ecology and future cities, climate change, alternative energy, waste management, biodiversity and its protection, forest ecology, ecological green tourism, and others.
