Within the framework of the ecological education program on the topic “Let’s Protect the Environment Together,” initiated by the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Education’s Republican Center for Ecological Education and Internship to strengthen environmental awareness in schools and involve people in solving environmental problems from an early age, the program continues.

As part of the program, the training held on June 10 was dedicated to the topic of “biodiversity and its conservation.” The training was organized at Shirvan National Park with the participation of 50 members of eco-clubs operating in schools.

In the theoretical part of the training, students were provided with information about Azerbaijan’s rich fauna, factors affecting biodiversity, agro-biodiversity and its importance, Azerbaijan’s Red Book, the role of living organisms in nature and human life, and the extensive projects implemented by the IDEA Public Union for the protection and enrichment of biodiversity in the Caucasus region. This included the “Big Five” concept (brown bear, imperial eagle, gray wolf, gazelle, and Caucasian leopard) established in 2012 on the initiative of IDEA Public Union founder and leader Leyla Aliyeva, the “Reintroduction of Gazelles to Their Historical Sites in the Caucasus” program, and the project “Restoring the Population of Leopards in Azerbaijan.”

In the practical part of the training, schoolchildren became closely acquainted with the territory of Shirvan National Park, participated in interactive activities and group work related to biodiversity, including quizzes. Students were also informed about the fauna species observed in Shirvan National Park, particularly the lifestyle, habitats, role in nature, and conservation efforts regarding gazelles.

It should be noted that during the current academic year, within the framework of the “Let’s Protect the Environment Together” program, training sessions covering ecological topics such as the basics of ecology, plant and animal ecology, human ecology, urban ecology and the cities of the future, climate change, alternative energy, forest ecology, and ecological green tourism were organized for members of “Eco-clubs” operating in pilot secondary schools in Baku. Starting from the next academic year, it is planned to continue these trainings for members of “Eco-clubs” in other secondary schools across Baku.
