IDEA has started tree-planting campaigns within the framework of the "Let's Restore the Greenery" project.

Organized by the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and supported by the Baku City Executive Authority’s Greening Department and the Nizami District Executive Authority, sustainable tree-planting campaigns have begun in the capital as part of the “Let’s Restore the Greenery” project.
Within the framework of the campaigns, it is planned to plant pine, cypress, poplar, sophora, olive, acacia, and other trees suitable for the soil and climatic conditions of Absheron and Baku to replace trees that have been deemed hazardous and cut down by the State Expertise Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources or have already been removed.
As is known, poplar trees have many drawbacks. Unfortunately, the pyramidal poplar, which is common in our capital, is currently recognized as the most dangerous tree. Because the wood of this tree is soft, it is easily damaged, and when water enters the damaged area, the tree quickly begins to rot. Moreover, the root system of these trees also decays rapidly, and in windy weather, the tall trunk cannot be supported, often toppling and causing certain losses.
In fact, poplar trees in the capital have caused fatal accidents. For instance, in 2013, a poplar tree fell onto a mother and her child, resulting in both losing their lives. A similar incident occurred in 2011, when Elchin Azizov, a resident of Baku, died. In both cases, the poplar trees appeared healthy externally, but due to strong winds, the weak root systems could not support the large trunks, leading to these unfortunate events. Poplar trees often fall onto cars, houses, balconies, power lines, and gas pipelines, causing accidents and damaging people’s property.
Considering the above, the implementation of the “Let’s Restore the Greenery” project began first in the Nizami district. On April 4, with the participation of nearly 100 IDEA volunteers, the first tree-planting campaign took place on Ali Valiyev Street in Nizami district, where 700 elder pines were planted.
It should be noted that on Elshen Suleymanov, Q. Garayev, Nakhchivani, Aliaga Kurchayli, Rustam Rustamov, Sharifli, Nasimi, B. Nuriyev, I. Ismayilov, K. Balakishiyev, and Sh. Mirzayev streets of Nizami district, as well as in the area of Babek Avenue, it is planned that around 1,500 elder pines will be planted in April to replace poplar, mulberry, and elm trees that have been deemed hazardous by the State Expertise Department and cut down.
Following Nizami district, similar campaigns will be organized in other districts of Baku city.
