Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Association; Arzu Aliyeva, head of the Baku Media Center; and Alena Aliyeva took part in a number of environmental campaigns during their visit to Lankaran.

First, within the framework of the “Green Marathon,” an afforestation campaign was organized by the IDEA Public Association in a forest area of the Lankaran district. With the participation of volunteers, 1,350 Eldar pine saplings were planted. During the event, information was provided about ongoing efforts aimed at expanding green belts, restoring forest resources, and protecting the ecosystem.

It should be noted that the main goal of the “Greening Marathon”, jointly organized by the IDEA Public Association and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, is to increase green areas, promote the tradition of tree planting, contribute to environmental protection, enrich the country’s floral biodiversity, and raise public awareness about the preservation of greenery. Within the framework of the “Green Marathon,” the planting of nearly 2 million trees across the country is planned during the autumn planting season of 2025 and the spring planting season of 2026.

Later, an animal release campaign was organized in the territory of Hirkan National Park with the aim of enriching biodiversity. As part of the campaign, 2 raccoons, 2 foxes, and 4 gazelles were released into the natural environment. The raccoons had previously been discovered and rescued from illegal captivity in catering establishments as a result of joint inspections conducted on the initiative of the IDEA Public Association with the participation of relevant authorities. These raccoons underwent treatment and rehabilitation at the Baku Zoological Park for four months and were returned to nature after fully recovering.

The foxes released into the wild had been found injured by citizens and handed over to the Baku Zoological Park. They were examined and treated under clinical conditions at the zoo for one year and, after the successful completion of the rehabilitation process, were released back into their natural habitat.

The gazelles released during the campaign were once among the species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan. As a result of successful conservation measures implemented in the country, the population of these wild animals has increased, and the species has been removed from the Red Book. The gazelles released into the national park are individuals bred at the Baku Zoological Park and whose natural population has been restored.

It should be noted that these environmental campaigns are part of the ongoing efforts carried out by the IDEA Public Association in Azerbaijan to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity.
