Leyla Aliyeva met with UNICEF's Regional Director

The Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva met with Afshan Khan, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, who is visiting our country.

Leyla Aliyeva highly appreciated UNICEF’s efforts worldwide to improve the situation of children, emphasizing that ensuring children’s well-being, health, and education is the most valuable investment for our future. She noted that significant progress has been made in Azerbaijan in this field in recent years and expressed confidence that these efforts will continue and expand further. Addressing the importance of educating and raising awareness among children on environmental protection, Leyla Aliyeva provided detailed information on numerous projects implemented by the IDEA Public Union over the past six years to enhance children’s ecological knowledge, including eco-laboratories, camps, courses, and publications.

UNICEF Regional Director Afshan Khan, in turn, expressed her gratitude to Leyla Aliyeva for her active efforts aimed at raising children’s awareness on environmental and sustainable development issues. She noted that UNICEF is interested in incorporating climate change, sustainability, and other environmental topics into educational curricula and highly appreciated IDEA’s work in this regard.

During the meeting, the parties discussed potential cooperation in environmental education for children, as well as exchanged views on the integration of children with disabilities into society, their social protection, rehabilitation, and education.
