On March 17, the “School Gardens” project, initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, and FAO Goodwill Ambassador, was successfully completed.

Within the framework of the “School Gardens” project, jointly implemented by the IDEA Public Union, FAO, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, fruit trees were planted in the yards of five secondary schools in each district of the country.

The aim of the project is to promote the use of ecologically healthy food among students, as well as to ensure the efficient use and greening of school yards.

It should be noted that Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, has been a FAO Goodwill Ambassador since 2015. FAO’s activities focus on combating hunger worldwide, ensuring food security, and creating healthy food systems.

The IDEA Public Union, which prioritizes ecological education and awareness in its activities, has already implemented a number of projects together with the Ministry of Education to engage the younger generation in environmental protection efforts and to positively influence the ecological status of educational institutions and the students’ environmental knowledge.

Within the framework of the “School Gardens” project, tree-planting campaigns were organized, and according to the climate and soil conditions of each district, approximately 20,000 fruit trees—including apple, pear, cherry, plum, walnut, hazelnut, pomegranate, persimmon, almond, and quince—were planted in over 300 schools.
