Informative Tour to Nərə Honey Processing Plant

On the occasion of **International Biodiversity Day** on **May 22**, IDEA Public Union and Azerbaijan Fish Farm LLC organized an informative tour for students of **Baku State University** to the **Nərə Fish Breeding Plant** located in the Neftchala district.
During the event, master's students and academic staff of BDU's Faculty of Biology got acquainted with the process of producing environmentally friendly and healthy seafood using sustainable methods. For the participants, a comprehensive presentation on aquaculture fishing and the cultivation of sturgeon species was held, along with an excursion to the farm area and the sea zone of the Neftchala Nərə Fish Breeding Plant.
Currently, the fisheries sector in Azerbaijan is rapidly developing again. Many farms operate that produce competitive products in the cultivation of various fish species, including sturgeon, carp-like, and goldfish-like species, contributing to the restoration of biodiversity in the Caspian Sea.
**Azerbaijan Fish Farm LLC** is a company that applies modern technologies for the cultivation of sturgeon species and trout in Azerbaijan, as well as for the production of sturgeon caviar, with all production processes complying with international quality standards. At the same time, regular release of fish bred at this and other fish breeding plants into natural water bodies aims to increase the natural population of endangered species.
In the context of global threats to marine bioresources due to climate change, pollution, overfishing, and other factors, the development of sustainable fisheries is of critical importance for the environment, the economy, and food security. In this regard, alongside the development of a modern and environmentally friendly aquaculture sector, extensive awareness-raising work on responsible fishing and consumption should be carried out in society. Taking this into account, under the initiative of **Leyla Aliyeva**, Vice-President of the **Heydar Aliyev Foundation** and founder and leader of IDEA Public Union, a number of important initiatives are being implemented for the conservation and restoration of Azerbaijan’s and the Caucasus region’s aquatic fauna.
It should be noted that due to the fish spawning period, a **moratorium on fishing** in all water bodies across the country came into effect on **May 1, 2023**, and will continue until **September 1**.
In this regard, IDEA Public Union calls on all citizens to support the conservation of fish stocks, promote responsible fishing, refrain from any actions that prevent the replenishment of fish stocks, and consume seafood obtained only through legal, sustainable, and responsible methods.
