On October 21, at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Head of the IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Protection) campaign, a herd of ten gazelles was reintroduced to Georgia within the framework of the "Project for the Reintroduction of Gazelles to Areas Historically Inhabited by Them in the Caucasus."

The reintroduction of the gazelle herd was carried out at the request of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Republic of Georgia.

Shalva Amiredjili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia, emphasized that this is a very important project and a significant step toward restoring biodiversity in the region. In the next phase, a project will be implemented to restore bison to their natural habitats in both Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Huseyngulu Baghirov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, reported that there are currently 9,000 gazelles in Azerbaijan. Gazelles have already been gradually released into areas such as Ag-Gol National Park, the Gobustan-Cangiçay Valley, and the Acınohur-Sarıca Plain, with up to 110 gazelles returned to their historical territories. Baghirov noted that efforts to restore and increase the gazelle population in Azerbaijan are already yielding results. As a result of this project and the measures implemented, the issue of gazelles will be permanently removed from the list of biodiversity problems.

It was reported that the gazelles sent to Georgia were fitted with special small devices. Through these devices, the location of the gazelles and the condition of their organisms will be monitored.
