Gizilagach National Park has been included in the world’s “Places of Hope” list

On November 8, 2019, based on the presentation by the IDEA Public Union, the newly established Gizilagach National Park was selected as a Hope Spot for the salvation of the world's waters. Hope Spots are marine areas declared within the framework of the international conservation campaign by the “Mission Blue” organization, recognized for their ecological uniqueness.
So far, 76 specially protected marine areas around the world have been designated as Hope Spots. These areas are crucial for the health of the global ocean. After the announcement of Hope Spots, an international information campaign is launched to highlight the significance of these areas in terms of biodiversity and carbon flow.
Thus, following the declaration of the first Hope Spot in the Caspian Sea, international media will regularly disseminate information about the protected marine area in Gizilagach and the importance of its conservation.
As is known, Gizilagach National Park, which includes the Gizilagach State Nature Reserve and the entire Gizilagach Bay, was established in September 2018 by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. The water area belonging to the national park is the first protected marine area in the Caspian Sea, and its protection is essential for the survival of the world’s most endangered fish species. Stretching along the Kura River, Gizilagach National Park provides spawning grounds for various anadromous fish species. In addition, recognizing its importance for migratory birds, this area was included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance in 2001.
