Devices are installed to protect birds from power lines.

In Azerbaijan, special devices are installed on electric poles to prevent birds from being injured or killed by contact with power lines, as well as to protect these lines.
Within the framework of a project implemented by “Azerenergy” JSC with the support of the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, specially designed cone-shaped devices made of polymer material will initially be installed on power lines in the districts of Goranboy, Yevlakh, Barda, Aghjabadi, Salyan, Masalli, and Ujar, where bird casualties are most frequently observed. In the next phase, it is planned to install such devices in other districts of the country as well.
It should be noted that, along with habitat loss, illegal hunting, and poisoning, contact with power lines is one of the main causes of bird mortality. Birds often touch the wires while flying or landing on dangerous poles and are electrocuted.
Cases of birds being electrocuted and related accidents on power lines in Azerbaijan are mainly observed on 110-330 kV transmission lines during seasonal bird migration in areas without trees. Unfortunately, electrocution incidents most often affect large birds, including birds of prey listed in Azerbaijan’s Red Book.
The devices installed under the project have a bright color that is noticeable from a distance and a shape that prevents birds from nesting on the poles, which helps protect both the birds themselves and the power lines from such mutual negative impacts.
