On April 17, at the Baku Congress Center, a presentation ceremony was held for the documentary film “Shahdagh. The King of Mountains,” produced as part of IDEA Public Union’s special project featuring a series of documentaries about national parks.

Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of IDEA Public Union, attended the event.

Before the film presentation, guests had the opportunity to view an exhibition of photographs taken during the filming of “Shahdagh. The King of Mountains” by the film’s director, Igor Bishnyov.

During the presentation ceremony, footage from a new film about the newly established Gizilagach National Park, which is currently in production, was also shown.

Later, speaking at the ceremony, Igor Bishnyov expressed his gratitude to Leyla Aliyeva, the initiator of the “Shahdagh. The King of Mountains” project, and shared his impressions of the six-year filming process with the guests.

The film discusses the purpose of creating Shahdagh National Park, the largest national park in the South Caucasus, the fauna residing there—including 108 species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, endemic and other endangered species, and transboundary migratory animals—the various flora species characteristic of the area, the breathtaking landscapes of Shahdagh resembling a grand fortress, and the globally significant mountain forests found in the region.

Within the framework of this IDEA project, the documentaries “Shirvan National Park” in 2014, “Bird Paradise – Aghgol National Park” and “Goygol National Park” in 2015, “Azerbaijan. Saving the Gazelles” in 2017, and “Absheron National Park” last year were presented to the general public. The project plans to produce documentaries about all national parks in the country.

Initiated by IDEA Public Union, the film “Shahdagh. The King of Mountains” will be screened at higher education institutions in Azerbaijan, as well as at the Union’s Resource Centers in Baku and Ganja. Additionally, the film is planned to be showcased in other countries and at various international events.

The main goal of IDEA in creating this series of documentaries about national parks is to promote the country’s extraordinary natural beauty both domestically and internationally, as well as to emphasize the importance of environmental protection.
