On May 28-30, the next eco-scout camp titled "Guarding Nature" was organized at Samur-Yalama National Park by the IDEA Public Union and the Azerbaijan Scout Association, with the support of the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The purpose of the "Guarding Nature" camps is to inform young people about Azerbaijan's rich nature, endemic flora and fauna, to protect nature, teach them to use the resources provided by nature sparingly and correctly, and to promote proper behavior in the wild and recreation without harming the environment.

The camp brought together 100 young people aged 18-25 who are studying or have completed education in environmental and sustainable development fields, have experience in these areas, and are distinguished by their ecological activism.

With the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, an eco-tour was organized for the youth in the territory of Samur-Yalama National Park. The participants were provided with detailed information on the main purpose of establishing the national park, the protection of rare and endangered plant and animal species found there, and the preservation of typical flora and fauna included in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A lecture on the flora and fauna species encountered in Samur-Yalama National Park was conducted by an expert from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

During the three-day camp, youth received training on Azerbaijan’s biodiversity and national parks, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They learned practical skills such as the use of modern equipment in sports like mountaineering, methods for dealing with emergency situations, and first aid for the injured. In addition, the program included hikes to scenic locations, archery, sports games, zipline rides, extreme overnight stays, and various ecological competitions and contests. Participants also engaged in discussions on global environmental issues and musical entertainment activities.

At the end of the camp, participants were awarded commemorative certificates.

It should be noted that the IDEA Public Union launched the “Eco-Scout” project in March 2017. The project aims to involve young people in nature conservation, to deeply study and protect wildlife, and to encourage engagement in beneficial ecological activities in society. The first camp within the “Eco-Scout” project was held in May 2018 at Shirvan National Park, followed by camps at Ag-Gol, Goygol, Shahdag, and Hirkan National Parks.

Considering the importance of ecological education, reducing and gradually eliminating the damage caused to nature by human activity, and forming ethical behavior toward nature, it is planned to hold "Guarding Nature" eco-scout camps in other national parks of the country as well.
