Orchards have been established for low-income families in Shamkir

During the tree-planting campaign, 1,200 fruit trees were planted on a 2.5-hectare plot allocated by the Shamkir District Executive Authority. The established orchard was distributed among low-income families living in Shamkir District, including veterans of the Karabakh war and families of martyrs, for their free use. These low-income families will have the opportunity to care for the orchards, harvest the produce, generate income, and improve their financial well-being. Representatives of the Shamkir District Executive Authority also participated in the campaign.
The planting of orchards for low-income families will take place in October–November in the districts of Gakh, Sabirabad, Beylagan, Lankaran, Agdash, Tovuz, and Aghstafa, and in the future, it will be organized in other districts of the country. In the initial phase of the project, approximately 9,000 fruit trees, including hazelnut, pomegranate, apricot, feijoa, and persimmon, are planned to be planted.
The socio-economic significance of the project lies in the fact that establishing such orchards will not only improve the well-being of the population but also contribute to reducing the country’s dependence on imported agricultural products.
It should be noted that the pilot project for planting fruit trees was initiated in April 2017 by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, and Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Within the framework of the project, the first orchard was established in Ismayilli District and provided for the free use of three low-income families.
