Under the slogan “Clean Kura!”, a cleanup campaign was held

On June 30, 2016, the IDEA Public Union, the world-renowned organization specializing in marine environment “Blue Marine Foundation” (BMF), and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources organized a cleanup campaign called “Clean Kura” in the Kura River delta, within the territory of Neftchala district.

About 100 volunteers from the IDEA Public Union, local youth, and members of the public participated in the campaign. Equipped with supplies meeting sanitary standards provided by IDEA, the young participants cleaned the Kura River banks of various household waste and damaged fishing nets. During the campaign, local residents were also informed about the harmful effects of river pollution and the use of destructive fishing tools on the Caspian Sea, the Kura River environment, and its fauna. The main goal of the campaign was to prevent pollution and littering along the Kura River banks, to promote cleanliness in these areas, and to raise public awareness, particularly about the damage that discarded household waste causes to the Kura River and, consequently, to the Caspian fauna.

The “Clean Kura” campaign was organized within the framework of IDEA’s program for the restoration of the Caspian Sea fauna. It is known that, alongside regulatory and institutional measures, public campaigns and awareness-raising activities play a special role in addressing environmental problems. Bearing this in mind, the IDEA Public Union, together with local and international partners, regularly organizes such cleanup campaigns along the Caspian coasts, including rivers, to preserve, enhance, and protect the Caspian bioresources.

IDEA expresses gratitude to all participants and organizations that supported the event, demonstrating care for the environment. The Public Union calls on everyone to be attentive to nature, our flora and fauna, and to keep the shores of the Caspian Sea and rivers clean.
