A tree-planting event dedicated to the birthday of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was held.

On May 10, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their family members participated in a tree-planting campaign dedicated to the birthday of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, held in the green area along the Gala-Turkan highway.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Muhtar Babayev informed President Ilham Aliyev about the work carried out.
In accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the head of state, between 2008 and 2018, a total of 5,436,000 various types of trees and shrubs were planted on 4,443 hectares of greenery along the country’s main highways. The areas where these trees were planted were equipped with drip irrigation systems. Priority was given to planting olive, almond, pomegranate, jujube, pistachio, walnut, and hazelnut trees.
President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their family members planted trees in the area.
On the birthday of national leader Heydar Aliyev, in the green area established along the Gala-Turkan highway, about 7,000 trees grown in root-bag conditions in the nurseries of the “Azerbaijan Greening and Landscape Design” Open Joint Stock Company under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources were planted.
It should be noted that ecology and environmental protection are among the main priorities of the Azerbaijani state. Considerable work has been done by our nation’s leader Heydar Aliyev at all times to protect the rich flora and fauna of the country and to transform Baku into a green city. The tradition established by the National Leader is successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev. It is no coincidence that one of the priority areas of the national development strategy implemented in Azerbaijan is to ensure environmental protection and to provide people with the highest level of healthy natural living conditions. The declaration of 2010 as the “Year of Ecology” in the country by President Ilham Aliyev is a clear example of this.
The head of state and the First Lady took commemorative photos with participants of the tree-planting campaign.
President Ilham Aliyev has also paid special attention to improving the ecological condition of areas contaminated with oil and other industrial waste and lands submerged under formation waters. Serious practical work has been carried out in the country to improve the provision of ecologically clean water to the population, millions of trees have been planted, and new parks and avenues established. As a result of important projects carried out in areas once contaminated with oil waste, such as the current “White City” and other regions, oil residues have been cleaned. These areas have now become new residential and cultural complexes of the capital and, as President Ilham Aliyev noted, modern ecological projects. All these efforts serve to protect the environment, particularly to ensure that citizens live in a healthy environment. The fundamental goal behind the measures taken to improve the ecological situation and the firm stance of the head of state against illegal tree cutting is the protection of human health.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, led by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, also pays special attention to the planting of new greenery and the preservation of existing green areas in the country. The projects implemented on the initiative and support of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, play an important role in this work.
It should be noted that ecological projects carried out at different times have covered all regions of Azerbaijan. Today, the active participation of citizens in tree-planting campaigns, greening efforts, and cleaning activities in our cities and districts is a clear indicator of this. According to experts, the work currently being carried out in Azerbaijan to protect the environment and ensure the health of the population can serve as an example for many countries.
