Training Held on the Occasion of World Bird Conservation Day.

On the occasion of World Bird Observation Day, IDEA Public Union, in cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, organized a training for young people within the framework of the autumn census of birds and mammals. It should be noted that the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducts seasonal censuses of migratory birds, studying their species and migration routes. Volunteers of IDEA Public Union participating in the census not only observed bird migration live, but also contributed to the census process.
The training consisted of theoretical and practical parts and lasted for 2 days. The theoretical part took place on October 5 at IDEA’s Resource Center located at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the session, representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the WWF Azerbaijan Office, and the Institute of Zoology of ANAS delivered lectures to young participants covering topics such as biodiversity, species included in the Red Book, and methodologies for conducting bird and mammal censuses.
On October 6, participants had the opportunity to put the theoretical knowledge they had gained into practice. Thus, young people who visited Shirvan National Park took part firsthand in practical fieldwork (observation of bird species, conducting censuses, preparation of reports, etc.). After becoming closely familiar with the area, participants were given on-site explanations of bird counting methodologies.
It should be noted that similar events have also been implemented by IDEA Public Union in previous years. The main purpose of the regularly conducted censuses is to monitor the dynamics of bird and mammal populations. Students and young specialists participating in the training acquired skills in assessing bird populations and impacts, observing various bird species and their lifestyles, and preparing reports on their numbers.
IDEA regularly organizes trainings, seminars, courses, field trips, and other activities dedicated to various environmental topics for students studying environmental protection and sustainable development, specialists working in this field, as well as young people who are not indifferent to the environment.
