In connection with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, a series of environmental actions was held.

Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Vice-President, founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Muxtar Babayev, and young volunteers took part in a tree-planting event held in the forest fund area of the Lankaran district. As part of the event aimed at forest restoration, ironwood — a species listed in Azerbaijan’s “Red Book” — was planted.
Then, in Hirkan National Park, an ecotourism trail was marked according to the “Czech model” to ensure comfortable movement for tourists. This method is planned to be widely applied in specially protected natural areas to stimulate the development of ecotourism in the country.
As the event continued, within the framework of the “Rich Reservoirs” project aimed at protecting and increasing fish populations in Azerbaijan’s inland water bodies, fish fry were released into Khanbulan Lake, jointly organized by IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. In total, 50,000 carp fry were released into the lake.
Later, 7 long-eared hedgehogs, provided by Baku Zoological Park within its cooperation with IDEA Public Union on the reproduction of Azerbaijan’s rare and endangered fauna species, were released into the territory of Hirkan National Park.
The organizers of the environmental actions held in Lankaran call on the public to take an active part in protecting Azerbaijan’s rich and fragile biodiversity, expanding and restoring green spaces, and supporting other efforts for the sake of the environment.
