An “Ecological Laboratory” has been organized for children residing in orphanages

On December 3, 10, and 17, a series of training sessions was held at the Resource Center located at IDEA’s Zira Culture Center within the framework of the “Ecological Laboratory for Children” project jointly implemented by the IDEA Public Association and the “Sevimli Bala” organization.
With the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, nearly 100 children aged 6–11 residing in Children’s Homes No. 1, 2, and 3 participated in this phase of the project.
During the training sessions dedicated to “The Earth and the New Year,” the “young ecologists” were provided with extensive information about interesting facts about our planet, changes occurring in nature during the winter season, snow, its structure and formation process, climate change and its impact on the environment, as well as explanations on preparing and decorating a New Year fir tree without harming the environment.
In the course of the training, the children took part in a number of laboratory experiments, including dry ice experiments that sparked great interest among them. Afterwards, a tour of the Zira Culture Center and engaging entertainment activities were organized for them.
In addition to giving children an interesting and enjoyable day, the laboratory training is also significant in terms of helping them acquire ecological knowledge from an early age.
At the end of the training, the IDEA Public Association and the “Sevimli Bala” organization presented New Year gifts to the young ecologists from Children’s Homes No. 1, 2, and 3.
It should be noted that within the framework of the “Ecological Laboratory for Children” project, implemented since January 2015, regular monthly training sessions have been held on various environmental topics, including climate change and global warming, the “green city,” waste and recycling, seasons of the year and trees, atmospheric pollution, environmentally friendly and healthy food, the properties of water and its conservation, energy and energy efficiency, animals and care for them. Over the course of two years, more than 500 children in total have visited the laboratory.
Those wishing to participate in the “Ecological Laboratory for Children” to be organized at the Resource Centers of the IDEA Public Association starting from next year are kindly requested to contact the IDEA Public Association at (497-63-16).
